Maa Baglamukhi Pooja
June 2024 across Mauritius
Maa Baglamukhi, also known as Devi Bagalamukhi, is associated with protection and victory over enemies. She is worshipped as the eighth Mahavidya (Great Wisdom) in the Dasa Mahavidya tradition, which focuses on the ten forms of the Maa Shakti.
Maa Baglamukhi is often depicted seated on a throne, holding a club in her right hand with which she strikes the demon, while pulling his tongue out with her left hand. This symbolizes the power to defeat and control negative forces. She is also depicted with a golden complexion, dressed in yellow, and often surrounded by yellow flowers.
The name "Baglamukhi" is derived from the word "Bagala," which means bridle or rein, and "mukhi," which means face. Thus, she is often interpreted as the one who has the power to control or paralyze enemies.
Worship of Maa Baglamukhi is believed to help devotees overcome obstacles, protect them from harm, and gain victory in legal matters, competitions, and conflicts. Her worship is also associated with the power of speech, as she is believed to govern the throat chakra, which controls communication.
Devotees of Maa Baglamukhi often recite her mantra, perform rituals, and offer prayers to seek her blessings and protection. She is also worshipped as a form of Maa Durga, especially during the Navratri festival.
